Vi får besøk av Neil Robbins for å snakke om NoSQL (Not Only SQL). Denne presentasjonen varer noe lengre enn vanlig (3 deler). Først dekker Neil NoSQL generelt, deretter spesifikt om CouchDB og Cassandra.

Om Neil:

Neil Robbins bor og jobber i London for Brit Insurance som Technical Architect. Han er spesielt opptatt av event drevet arkitektur, capability modeling, CQRS og NoSQL databaser. Han har mye erfaring innen .NET, med spesielt fokus på verktøy og teknikker fra alt.net bevegelsen.

For many years now RDBMS tech has pretty much had a monopoly on the world of datastores. In the last few years though a brave new world of non-relational databases has been gaining increasing popularity. It's even got a name now, the NoSql movement.

This will be a talk in three parts. In the first part I will introduce the general area of NoSQL looking at why some people and organisations have felt the need to use technologies other than the relational database, and some of the ideas, patterns, and approaches which are often found in NoSQL solutions. In the second and third parts I will introduce two popular, but very different, NoSQL products: CouchDB, and Cassandra.

Apache CouchDB is a Document Database, which has great strengths in the areas of managing occassionaly connected clients, ease of use and deployment, and its very close fit with the web.

Apache Cassandra is a column-family database, which can be seen as a combination of Google's Bigtable, in terms of how it models data, and Amazon's Dynamo, in terms of how it manages the data and scales.

I'll cover the main areas of each product, how they work, and what they can do, and provide a demonstration of each in action.
